Exam Format
  • The Assessments consist of a range of multiple-choice and free-response questions.
  • For the multiple-choice questions, students will have to choose the correct answer from the four possible options.
  • For the free response questions, students will have to write the answers in the boxes provided.
  • Each question is worth one mark.
  • The total score is the number of correct answers.
  • No marks are deducted for wrong answers.
  • Papers are ordered from the easiest items to the most difficult items.
  • The items towards the end of the paper are designed to provide an opportunity for the most able students to demonstrate a high level of skill.
  • The questions are carefully graded to cater to a wide range of student abilities using contexts that stimulate students' interest and engage their attention. Students at all levels of competency stand to benefit from participation in the diagnostic assessments.

Skill Assessed

Students read a variety of texts which narrate, describe, explain, argue, persuade and review. These include extracts from picture books, novels, poems, play scripts, transcripts of interviews, letters, diary entries, advertisements, web pages, feature articles, opinion pieces and comics. These texts cover a range of topics and may include tables, diagrams, maps and other visual information.

The texts increase in complexity with each assessment, moving from simple texts dealing with familiar subjects and topics to complex texts incorporating abstract concepts and sophisticated language structures.

Major skills assessed during ICAS English examination:

Students are required to locate, identify, interpret, infer and synthesise information in and about texts

The skill areas assessed are:

  • Reading for meaning in factual texts.
  • Reading for meaning in literary texts.
  • Textual devices, syntax and vocabulary.

  • Classes 2 : 35 multiple-choice / 40 minutes
  • Classes 3 & 4 : 45 multiple-choice / 45 minutes
  • Classes 5 & 6 : 50 multiple-choice / 50 minutes
  • Classes 7 & 8 : 55 multiple-choice/ 55 minutes
  • Classes 9 to 12 : 60 multiple-choice/ 60 minutes

How to get good Rank in ICAS - Science Exam:

Most of the Olympiad exams are conducted on the similar syllabus that Kid s are studying at school. It means that they do not require additional reference books for the preparation of these exams. However, at the same time questions asked in these exams are quite different than what Kid s learn in the school. Questions are trickier and conceptual.
